Patients with schizophrenia, anxiety, and depression who was being studied in Bailey’s deep sleep therapy at Chelmsford Hospital were often admitted voluntarily or by family, hoping for relief. Many were vulnerable and unaware of the experimental nature and significant risks of this ultimately disastrous treatment.
